The Resolution Revolution: Let’s Make Crap on Purpose
New Year’s Day feels like it is the official day of the “do over”, a time to begin again or just a time to be reflective. I’m not talking about resolutions.
When it comes to resolutions I am the poster girl for “failure by February” (if I lasted that long). I’ve tried all the head games like sharing accountability, self-shaming or bribing myself with rewards.
Would I rather clean out the gutters or sign up for tango lessons? I decided that I’d like to resolve to do something I could successfully do without the agony of judging if I didn’t do it. Gutters or tango need not apply.
Where I am guaranteed to succeed is in the art of making crap.
What if I gave my internal, Miss Perfectionistic Paralyzed non-risk-taking self the permission to throw all that goodie-two-shoes creating out the New Years Resolution window?
What if you did too? What if we had permission to make crap? With the same hands that are attached to the brain that says every piece should be a masterpiece, we just make crap until it becomes better crap? What if we make crap until is isn’t crap anymore?
This year, let’s resolve to make something that might suck. And love it anyway for the joy of accomplishing something we set out to do and walk away like the bad ass creativity rebels we are.
